Nepal Fundraising Initiative

Nepal is one of the 6 poorest countries in the World. While it is famous for its spectacular mountains less than 20% of the country is arable and it has the highest level of malnutrition in the world.

Like many people doing a trek in the Himalayas has been a dream. As part of my research for a potential trip I recently read Conor Grennan’s Little Princes, One Man’s promise to bring home the lost children of Nepal.  It reinforced how difficult life is for rural people in Nepal . I decided to see how I could help and when I discovered  the Everest Marathon, which is held as a fund raising event for Nepal I leaped at the chance to be involved.

After 126 Marathons and Ultras here was a chance to use my addiction for something more than just personal satisfaction . Running the world’s highest marathon (it starts at Everest Base Camp at 5184 m.) in December gives me an opportunity to raise funds for people who don’t have the advantages that we enjoy as Canadians.

Unlike many running charities where a substantial amount of the funds raised go to cover athlete costs or administration , we are paying all of our travel costs and the Everest Marathon charges all participants the full cost of a Nepal trekking holiday. Then their profits go directly to the Everest Marathon Fund to support self-help projects in Nepal

I will be raising funds for a Canadian charity, Nepal School Projects. It is a volunteer run group that  provides funds for self-help projects. As a registered charity  any donation over $25.00 is eligible for a tax receipt. If you want to help me to support the people of Nepal you can make a donation directly to NSP (in which case just indicate that it is support of Rob McWilliam’s Everest Marathon). DONATE HERE NOW.

Namaste.
